Canvas LMS is a learning management system originally released as open source by Instructure Inc. under the AGPLv3 license, distinct from the hosted, paid version Instructure sells to institutions as Canvas Core/Plus/Next. Instructure was taken private by KKR and Dragoneer in November 2024 after previously trading on the NYSE. The GitHub repository remains active, with recent commits and no archive notice.
