Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of AltCatalog, a service operated by Volcanic Labs SLU ("AltCatalog", "we", "us", or "our"), including altcatalog.com, our directory, data, accounts, paid plans, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Services for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind it.

1. What AltCatalog is

AltCatalog is a software-alternatives directory. We publish structured, source-linked information, moderate proposed changes, and compute Alt Scores from Verified coverage and measured first-party Visibility. Sponsorships and vendor participation do not change organic scores or positions. Paid placements are labeled.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You may browse without an account. To create an account, you must be at least 18, provide accurate information, keep your credentials secure, and notify us of unauthorized access. Paid Services are offered only to businesses and to individuals acting for purposes related to their trade, business, craft, or profession. They are not offered to consumers.

3. Contributions

You may propose facts, alternatives, corrections, flags, reasons, and other material ("Contributions"). You must provide genuine supporting sources where requested, have the right to submit the material, and not disclose confidential information or infringe another person's rights.

You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable license to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, display, and sublicense Contributions as part of the Services and their public change history. Factual data is not owned by a contributor merely because they submit it. We may review, edit, label, dispute, demote, reject, or remove Contributions to operate and protect the Services.

4. Content notices and moderation

To report inaccurate, unlawful, or rights-infringing content, email [email protected] with the exact URL, the content concerned, the reason for your report, your name and email address, and a good-faith statement that the information is accurate. We may request supporting information. Where required and legally permitted, we will explain our decision and the reason for a content or account restriction.

5. Accuracy and availability

Software information changes frequently. A "verified" label describes our review process, not a guarantee. Automated research may help identify facts, but publication is subject to human moderation. Data, scores, Visibility, rankings, and comparisons may be incomplete, outdated, or affected by measurement error. Verify important decisions against the linked official source.

To the extent permitted by law, the Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without express or implied warranties. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, any particular ranking, traffic, commercial result, or approval of a submission.

6. Ranking integrity

Money cannot buy or move an organic ranking. You must not manipulate scores, verification, traffic, or Visibility through automated or coordinated activity, false submissions, duplicate accounts, artificial clicks, or abusive flags. Vendors may not alter competitors' pages except through the reporting and proposal tools made available to them.

7. Names, logos, and vendor pages

Product names, logos, and trademarks belong to their owners and are used for identification and comparison. Their appearance does not imply affiliation or endorsement. A verified vendor claim identifies the person managing a page; it does not make vendor-provided statements independent evidence or allow removal of accurate unfavorable information.

8. Acceptable use and API access

You must not break the law; infringe rights; submit malicious, deceptive, or defamatory material; misrepresent your identity; bypass access controls; disrupt or probe the Services; or scrape, automate, or bulk-extract data in a way that harms the Services or evades published limits. API credentials are confidential and you are responsible for their use. We may rate-limit, suspend, or revoke access to protect the Services and other users.

9. Paid Services

Current prices and included features appear on the pricing and checkout pages. Unless checkout states otherwise, prices are in US dollars and exclude VAT and other applicable taxes.

• Fast-track review: a $29 one-time fee for human review within 24 hours after payment. It buys review speed, not approval or ranking. The fee is refunded if the submission is rejected. If we miss the review window, you may request a refund before review is completed.
• Pro: $19 per month for each enrolled app.
• Sponsored placement: $199 per month for each enrolled category. Placement is labeled and does not affect organic ranking.

Pro and sponsored placements renew monthly until canceled. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and access continues until then. We do not refund a partial period except where these Terms or applicable law require it. Checkout controls if it displays a different price or scope. We may change prices on reasonable notice; a change applies from a later renewal.

10. Service changes

We may add, remove, or change features and reasonable usage limits as the Services evolve. We will not use a feature change to alter an organic ranking in exchange for payment. If we discontinue a paid Service, we will provide a proportionate refund for any prepaid period we do not provide.

11. Intellectual property

The software, design, original text and graphics, AltCatalog brand, verification methodology, and Alt Score are owned by Volcanic Labs SLU or its licensors. Except for the limited right to use the Services, no license is granted. You may not copy or extract the database as a whole. We may use feedback and suggestions without restriction or payment.

12. Third-party services

The Services link to third-party sites and use third-party providers such as Stripe. We do not control third-party content or policies. Your use of a third-party service may be governed by its own terms.

13. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy describes how we process personal data. It is not a substitute for any consent that applicable law specifically requires.

14. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Services and request account deletion at any time. For an ordinary, reasonably curable breach, we may give you 30 days to cure before termination. We may suspend or terminate immediately for a serious or non-curable breach, unlawful activity, non-payment, fraud, manipulation, or a security risk. Public factual history may be retained or disassociated as described in the Privacy Policy.

15. Customer responsibility and indemnity

You are responsible for your Contributions and use of the Services. To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify Volcanic Labs SLU against third-party claims, damages, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use, your Contributions' infringement of third-party rights, or your breach of Section 8. This does not apply to the extent a claim was caused by us.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Volcanic Labs SLU and its affiliates, directors, employees, and agents are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-profit damages, or for decisions made in reliance on directory data. Our aggregate liability arising from the affected Services is limited to the greater of EUR 100 or the fees you paid us for those Services during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including for fraud, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.

17. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms by posting a revised version and effective date. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you do not agree, stop using the Services and cancel paid Services before the next renewal.

18. General

Neither party is liable for delay caused by events beyond its reasonable control. Invalid provisions will be limited or severed without affecting the remainder. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the applicable checkout form the entire agreement for the Services.

We may assign these Terms to an affiliate or in connection with financing, a merger, reorganization, acquisition, or sale of all or part of our business. You may not assign them without our prior written consent.

19. Governing law and operator

Spanish law governs these Terms. Courts in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory law that requires a different forum.
