Who it's for

Domoticz is for hobbyists and DIY home automation enthusiasts who want to monitor and control smart devices locally, without cloud accounts or subscriptions. It particularly suits people running older or low-power hardware, like a Raspberry Pi, who value privacy and full control over their setup.

What you get

Domoticz is a free, open-source home automation server that integrates 150+ devices and protocols, including Z-Wave, Zigbee, MQTT, Philips Hue, and smart energy meters. It runs entirely locally, so data and automations stay on your own hardware with no forced updates or fees. Automation logic can be written in dzVents, Lua, Python, or Blockly, and it includes energy/cost monitoring plus mobile notifications for iOS and Android. It's lightweight enough to run on minimal hardware, using well under 50MB of RAM.

How it works

You install Domoticz on a server or Raspberry Pi, then add the hardware you want to use (a Z-Wave stick, Zigbee coordinator, etc.), and Domoticz auto-discovers connected sensors and switches. From there you build automations with schedules, triggers, and scripts, and manage everything through a web interface that adapts to desktop or mobile.
