Encrypted notes experiment. Firefox Notes has been discontinued; the active alternatives listed here are maintained products you can switch to.
Firefox users who wanted a lightweight way to jot down and save text notes directly in the browser, synced across their desktop and mobile devices.
Notes was a simple text note-taking tool built as a browser sidebar panel, later also offered as a standalone Android app. Notes were encrypted and synced across devices via a Firefox Account/Firefox Sync. It supported basic text formatting but had no folders, tags, or rich media support. It was a Mozilla Test Pilot experiment rather than a permanent product.
Users installed the Notes add-on (or opened the panel via the Firefox toolbar), typed notes into a single running text area, and signed into a Firefox Account to sync that content across their other Firefox installs. Mozilla shut down the service in November 2020, discontinuing both the desktop add-on and the Android app.
