Individuals and small businesses who wanted to print from phones, tablets, or Chromebooks to a shared printer without installing local drivers on every device.

What you get

Google Cloud Print let a printer be registered to a Google account and then accessed from any app or device signed into that account. It worked with natively 'cloud-ready' printers as well as older printers shared via a connected Windows, Mac, or Linux computer running Chrome or the Cloud Print connector. Print jobs could be sent remotely over the internet, not just the local network, and shared with other Google users. It included basic print queue management and printer sharing controls.

How it works

A printer was registered to a Google account either directly (for cloud-ready models) or through a classic-printer connector running on a computer with the printer installed. Users then selected that printer from the print dialog in Chrome, Android, or supported apps, and the job was routed through Google's servers to the printer, which had to be online to receive it.
