Alternatives to Inbox by Gmail

Gmail users who wanted a more automated, organized alternative to the standard Gmail interface for managing high email volume.

Inbox automatically grouped related messages into Bundles (like Promos or Travel) that could be reviewed or dismissed as a group. It surfaced Highlights pulled from emails, such as flight itineraries, package tracking, and event details, often enriched with live data from the web. Smart Reply offered short suggested responses, and users could pin important messages or create simple Reminders and to-do notes alongside their email.

Users viewed their inbox as a stream of Bundles and individual highlighted items rather than a flat list, and could Snooze any email or reminder to make it reappear at a chosen later time or location. Swipe gestures let users archive (done) or snooze items directly from the list. Google shut down Inbox by Gmail on April 2, 2019, folding its features back into standard Gmail.
