Live game streamers and viewers who wanted low-latency, interactive broadcasting, especially competitive and co-streaming gamers on Xbox and PC.

What you get

A live-streaming platform built around FTL (Faster Than Light) technology, which delivered sub-second latency far lower than typical streaming services. It offered interactive viewer features like Sparks and Embers (virtual currencies) for chat-based polls, game triggers, and channel customization, plus native integration with Xbox consoles and Xbox Live. Microsoft acquired the platform (originally called Beam) in 2016 and rebranded it as Mixer.

How it works

Streamers broadcast gameplay from PC or Xbox using Mixer's software or built-in console integration, while viewers watched and interacted in near real time through low-latency chat, reactions, and interactive overlays. Microsoft shut down Mixer on July 22, 2020, directing streamers and users to Facebook Gaming as part of a partnership.
