Commuters and mobile-first viewers who wanted professionally produced entertainment in short sessions, rather than sitting through a full TV episode or movie.

What you get

Quibi offered original scripted and unscripted shows broken into episodes of roughly 5-10 minutes, produced with Hollywood-level budgets and talent. Content was mobile-only and used a dual-format "Turnstyle" video technology that reformatted the picture between landscape and portrait as you rotated your phone. It also included a daily news/info feed of short segments. The service required a paid subscription (with an ad-supported and ad-free tier) and had no web or TV app at launch.

How it works

Users subscribed via the iOS or Android app, browsed a slate of short-form shows and news segments, and streamed episodes on their phone, rotating the device to switch between landscape and portrait viewing without the video cropping or black bars. Quibi launched in April 2020 and shut down in December 2020.
