People who read a lot of web articles and wanted a distraction-free way to read them, either immediately in-browser or saved for later across devices.
A clean reading view that stripped ads, navigation, and other clutter from web pages, plus a save-for-later reading queue with sync across desktop, iOS, and Android apps. It offered text-to-speech playback and a Send to Kindle option, and later added a subscription (about $5/month) that redistributed revenue to the publishers of articles members read. The service was shut down in 2016.
Users installed a bookmarklet or browser extension to reformat any article into the reader view or add it to their queue, then read or listened to saved articles later via the web app or mobile apps, which synced read/unread status across devices.
