Secret let users post short text messages that appeared anonymously in a feed visible to friends, friends-of-friends, and nearby users. Posts could be liked and commented on, and popular ones could spread beyond a user's immediate network. The app used a person's phone contacts to determine whose posts they'd see, while hiding who wrote each individual post.
Users signed up with their phone contacts and wrote short anonymous posts, which surfaced in feeds based on social proximity; other users could like, comment, or share them anonymously in turn. Secret shut down in 2015.
