Shotcut is for hobbyist, student, and independent video creators who want a capable, no-cost editor, as well as more experienced editors who need multi-track, multi-format timeline work without paying for a license.
A native, cross-platform (Windows/Mac/Linux) timeline editor that reads and writes hundreds of audio/video formats via FFmpeg, so clips of different resolutions and frame rates can be mixed on one timeline without pre-converting. It includes color correction, compositing, keyframeable video/audio filters, and VST/LV2 audio plugin support. GPU-accelerated (OpenGL) processing and 4K/8K support are built in, along with webcam capture, screen recording, and Blackmagic SDI/HDMI capture and monitoring.
You import media by drag-and-drop or file dialog, arrange and trim clips on a multi-track timeline using 3-point editing and standard cut/copy/paste tools, then apply and keyframe filters before exporting through FFmpeg-based encoding (including batch jobs and hardware-accelerated encode/decode).
