Alternatives to Stratum
Open source authenticator with wearable support
Stratum ranks #2 of 10 in Authenticator apps, with an Alt Score of 75. It is licensed under GPL-3.0, free and available on Android. 7 of 9 checklist rows are verified against a public source.
Android users who want a private, open-source two-factor authentication app with no cloud lock-in — people who value auditable security and full control over their accounts and backups.
Stratum (formerly Authenticator Pro) generates TOTP, HOTP, and Mobile-OTP codes for your accounts, storing them in an encrypted, biometric-protected local vault. You can organize accounts into categories with recognizable service icons, and create encrypted backups for import/export across devices. A Wear OS companion app syncs codes to your watch for offline access, and the app runs entirely on-device with no internet permission required.
Add an account by scanning a QR code or entering its secret key, and Stratum generates rolling one-time codes locally following the RFC 6238/4226 standards. Codes refresh automatically (every 30 seconds for TOTP), and can also be viewed on a paired Wear OS watch.
