Who it's for

Developers and teams who test and manage REST, GraphQL, gRPC, and WebSocket APIs and want a Postman/Insomnia alternative that keeps data local rather than in a vendor cloud.

What you get

A desktop API client supporting HTTP, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, and SSE requests, with OAuth 1/2, AWS v4, JWT, Basic, Bearer, and API Key authentication. Requests, environments, and variables are stored as local files that sync via Git (or Dropbox), with optional ChaCha20-Poly1305-encrypted secrets in the OS keychain. It imports existing collections from Postman, Insomnia, OpenAPI, Curl, and Swagger. It's open source (MIT license), has no telemetry, and doesn't require an account.

How it works

Yaak runs fully offline as a native desktop app with no cloud backend; requests and config are saved as plain-text files on disk that Git can version and diff like code.

Why people leave Yaak

Dashed reasons are sourced facts; the rest are opinions. Vendors can dispute.
