Who it's for

Web users who wanted their social networks, feeds, and web media integrated directly into their browser rather than managed across separate sites and tabs.

What you get

Flock built social networking, RSS/blog feeds, and media sharing into the browser chrome itself, with a People sidebar for Facebook and Twitter updates, a Media Bar for previewing photos and videos from sites like Flickr and YouTube, and built-in tools for blogging and webmail. It started as a Firefox-based browser in 2005 and was rebuilt on Chromium in 2010-2011. Favorites could be tagged and synced online through Flock's own account system.

How it works

Users signed into their social, email, and media accounts within Flock, and updates from those services appeared automatically in the browser's sidebar and toolbars alongside normal web browsing. The service and browser were shut down in April 2011.
