Who it's for

Google account holders who wanted a customizable web portal as their browser start page, pulling together news, email, weather, and other feeds in one place.

What you get

iGoogle provided a personalized homepage built from a grid of "gadgets" (widgets) for things like Gmail previews, weather, calendars, RSS feeds, and games. Users could choose from a directory of gadgets, arrange them in tabs, and apply visual themes to the page. It required a Google account and ran entirely in the browser.

How it works

Users added and arranged gadgets via a drag-and-drop grid, organized them into multiple tabs, and picked a theme; the page then loaded and refreshed each gadget's content automatically. Google shut iGoogle down on November 1, 2013, citing the shift toward native mobile apps.
