Who it's for

Vine was aimed at casual creators and younger social media users who wanted to make and share quick, looped video clips, and at brands and comedians looking to build an audience through short, shareable content.

What you get

Vine let users record and share looping videos up to 6 seconds long, composed of multiple short clips stitched together in-app. It included a social feed, likes, revines (reposts), comments, and profiles for following other creators. The format encouraged loop-friendly, comedic, or visually surprising clips rather than longer-form storytelling. It ran as a standalone iOS, Android, and Windows Phone app, with clips also embeddable and shareable on Twitter and other sites.

How it works

Users held down the record button to capture short segments of video, releasing and re-pressing to add more clips, which were automatically stitched into a single looping video once posted. Finished Vines were shared to a personal profile and follower feed, where others could watch, like, comment, and revine them. Twitter discontinued the Vine app in January 2017.
