Who it's for

People who wanted a free, open-source-rooted to-do list that worked across Android, iOS, and the web, with enough depth for shared task lists and reminders but without a paid-productivity-suite price tag.

What you get

Astrid offered task lists with due dates, tags, and priority levels, plus location- and time-based reminders (via Locale integration on Android). Tasks and lists could be shared with other people for basic collaboration, and voice input let you add tasks by speaking. It synced with services like Google Tasks, Remember the Milk, and Producteev, and ran as native Android and iOS apps, a Chrome extension, and a web app.

How it works

Users created tasks in lists, tagged and prioritized them, and set due dates or location triggers that fired reminders at the right time or place; shared lists let collaborators see and check off the same tasks, with everything kept in sync across devices via Astrid's cloud service. Astrid was acquired by Yahoo in 2013 and shut down shortly after.
